Unity in Diversity by David M. of Liberia

Unity in diversity:

What is the guarantee of the unity in Marriage?

What are our individual responsibilities?

What areas in my marriage do I have struggles submitting to or loving my partner?

Where have I tempered with this unity?

“Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a women and He brought her to man. And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man”.  Genesis 2:22, 23.

The institution of the marriage is an added responsibility to both the man and the woman who come from different areas of orientations to walk together in life-time partnership. The parties (man and woman) in this unity are under straight obligation to submit. This calls for leadership (1 Cor. 11:3), unconditional love (Eph.5:21-25), sacrifice, and meeting the wife’s material, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. The ideal relationship in the institution of marriage is unique to the husband and the wife; it comes at the point of intense needs and desire of both parties; to live together from different backgrounds and orientations or upbringings. For this cause it is imperative that a man leaves his mother and father and cleaves to his wife; the difference is the stronger bones (man) and the weaker bone (woman) are coming together again in the unity of the creational uniqueness they enjoyed in Adam. Lack of spiritual, emotional, and intellectual unity progressively precedes a dramatic break down of the physical unity. The wife compliments the husband socially, intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally through submission. The guarantee is: husbands and wives are joined permanently knowing that they are built differently by designs, yet, determined to attain unity in this diversity which is essential to the healthiness of the institution of marriage. There is no shame in this unity, Genesis 2:25; as long as the integrity and trust are maintained.

Prayer: Dear God, you have been the sustainer of my marriage, help me to love, and to submit in the bond of the unity you have caused us to enjoy in Jesus’ name. Amen
