JOY
Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit
Over and over again joy is becoming rare in the lives of many Christians. Why? Because the world has defined Joy as an emotion evoked by wellbeing, success and prospect of possessing what one desires, this however is a temporary joy that comes and goes depending on the situation and emotions. But biblical joy is a deep, spiritual based attitude that has its source in God and is not based on circumstance.
God is the source of true joy- authentic joy is found in the presence of God 1 chronicles 16:27, Psalm 16:11, In thy presence is fullness of joy.
Joy as a fruit of the Holy Spirit-among the nine fruits that the Spirit produces in the life of regenerated child of God is Joy. Galatians 5:22 ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,…’’
How to stay joyful – By trusting God Isaiah 26:3-4, Proverbs 3:5-6 -Meditating in the Word of God. Psalms 1:2-3, John 15:11. -Bearing the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 -Remaining hopeful in the promises of God. Romans 15:13 -By prayer and thankfulness. 1 Thess 5:16-18, John 16:24 – Clear understanding of the purpose of God. James 1:2-4, Acts 19:25.
Benefits of Joy– Joy strengthens our hearts Nehemiah 8;10. Joy transforms the difficult trials into blessing. 1peter 1:6-8, Joy is the most infallible sign of the presence of God in our lives. Psalms 16:11, Joy is the expression of our trust and faith in God. Philippians 4:4, 1 Thess 5:16. Joy is steadfast regardless of our circumstance. 2 Cor 6:10
Enemies of Joy: sin (worry, doubt, fear) can steal our joy. Psalm 51:11-12
Prayer Father God, teach us to set our hearts on you and be joyful in every circumstance trusting that you work out all things for our good and for your glory, in Jesus Name.
