Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a door to enjoyment and peace in our life. But our un-forgiving nature can hamper the journey of our faith and daily life. If we have a bitter and un-forgiving nature it may be a dangerous disease in our ministry. It creates an uncomfortable situation for us to continue our spiritual journey. We need to take a concrete action if we have bitterness towards others or it will disturb our spiritual life.

We know that forgiveness is a very significant part of our spiritual life. If we see Mathew 18:21-22, Then peter came to Jesus and asked “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother and sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. What a great verse for all of us that are called to forgive without any condition and to infinity for big or small mistakes. If we forgive those who hurt us, we can feel the peace and joy of the Lord. Jesus said if you do not forgive others their sins, your father will not forgive your sins.

In Matthew 6:15 we can see a condition of prayer in this verse. If we have someone that we have not forgiven, God will not hear our prayers. An unforgiving nature or refusing to forgive someone is a kind of disobedience of God’s command. The Bible says, if we refuse to forgive a brother or sister, God will not only not hear our prayers, but He will not forgive us. We can understand that if we forgive others their offenses, the heavenly Father will forgive us. It is true that when we first come to God and believe in Christ as our personal lord and savior then God forgives our sins and has made us free from all sins.

Forgiveness is a vital part of our spiritual journey, and it is proof of Love.  In our practical life, we need to not only forgive others but also try our best to love with them unconditionally, as Jesus modeled for all of us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus help me to avoid un-forgiving spirit and lead me through forgiving others to enter the door of peace and joy. Lord, give me your grace and mercy to forgive others and to understand the importance of forgiveness for the journey of faith.
