Forgiveness by Patrick F. of Sierra Leone
Forgiveness, a Biblical Prerequisite Before Prayers
Forgiveness is to let go something from our heart willingly without being forced physically by anyone.
St Mark’s Gospel 11:25 says, And when ye stand praying forgive if ye have ought against any; that your father also in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. In my Bible St. Mark’s Gospel 11:25 falls under the heading, Jesus taught His audience on Prayer. As Christ’s followers we need to put into practice what He teaches and does. He commanded us to forgive others that has wronged us or vice versa. We see Him demonstrate this on the cross at Calvary as recorded by St Luke in chapter 23:24—
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for the know not what they do.
When we choose to obey Christ’s command on forgiveness as we stand to pray, we are sure to experience His forgiveness as He promised us and other blessings attached to it, or vice versa. This singular act of forgiveness will open special doors that are unimaginable for us. We need to be forgiving, whether in our relationships, towards our families, business partners, friendships, etc. so we do not incur His wrath. (Who can stand before this our God when He is angry?).
As I conclude, the Hebrew writer says, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Heb.10:31). Let us obey His command to forgive one another so we can receive His Forgiveness & blessings in abundance.
Prayer: Lord, give me the Grace to obey you by forgiving those that have wronged me & those I have wronged.
