Faith by Anand from Asia
Faith
Introduction: Faith has two definitions – worldly definition which says unless and until you don’t see with your eyes and hear with your ears don’t believe. But Biblical definition is totally opposite of worldly definition of faith, Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” According to this definition, it is expected from every believer to have faith like this.
I want to bring to your notice one example from the Bible where we see exactly the true faith that Bible defines.
Genesis 22:1-14 here we see the test of Abraham’s faith, God asked him to sacrifice his only son, who is the answer of prayer and perseverance, after this son there is no hope to have another child. (1) In verse 3 Abraham got up early morning and took his only son, and other things and started to go to the place where he has to sacrifice his son – this is called faith in obedience. (2) In verse 5 Abraham told his servants “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” This is his faith that we will come back, though he knew that he has to sacrifice his son. (3) In verse 7 Isaac asked his father, “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” you can imagine as a father who knows that, who is going to be sacrificed here? His only son Isaac, but see Abraham’s reply in verse 8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” This the faith which describes Hebrews 11:2 (4) Verses 9-10 He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. This is about giving himself totally for the faith he has on God, ‘A faith that is not tested is not faith at all.’ What kind of faith you have, on seen or unseen, visible or invisible God?
Prayer: Lord, help me to trust on you alone not on visible things and worldly things. Amen
