Excellence by Allan K. of WILD Zambia

Excellence
Christian leadership demands Excellence.

In Genesis 1 at every instance the Bible tells us God saw that it was good six times.  At the creation of man, the Bible says it was ‘Very good’- v 31. God by his nature, he is a God of standards.  He is not only good he loves what’s good. The Lord Jesus affirms in Mark 10:18 that only God is good.  Today many Christian leaders do not care about the standard for their life and later on their ministry. Common is poor time keeping among majority Christians, especially in Africa. The event is more important than the time in Africa! Further disorder is what characterizes Christian activities.

In both the Old and New Testaments we see how we are called to excellence as God’s people. For example, these two passages resonate with excellence: (Deut 7:6 [ESV2011]) “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.  (1Pet 2:9 [ESV2011]) But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

1.      Understand the meaning of Excellence – The first step for us is to understand the meaning of excellence. Christian excellence according to Ecclesiastes 9:10 is the ability to do what is best to God’s glory. It is the pursuit and doing that which honors God in life and service.

2.      The Nature of Christian Excellence – In 1 Peter 2:9, it is the means of the proclamation of an Excellent God who has called us from darkness into his marvelous light. God is the source of excellence. Hence, he is the measure of all biblical excellence.

3.      The Practice of Christian Excellence – (Eccl 9:10 [ESV2011]) Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going. This verse excepts us to practice excellence in everything. This includes our faith, speech, general conduct, and I suppose our general appearance.

Prayer. Dear Lord help me be an excellent servant. May my way of life, conduct, speech and thoughts be excellent in Jesus name.
