Meekness in Service by Nicki H. of the USA
Meekness in Service- What does that mean, and how do I serve meekly?
Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
In my Bible, Colossians 3:12-20 falls under the heading: Living as Those Made Alive in Christ. As followers of Christ, we are a new creation and are to ‘put off the old and put on the new’. As said in Colossians 3:12, we are to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. When we choose to live out Colossians 3:12 we are choosing to be meek. Unfortunately, the word ‘meek’ has developed a negative connotation and definition over the years, but Biblically speaking meek is not being weak or a doormat by any means. Biblically speaking Meek is being humble and gentle toward others and submissive and obedient to the Lord. It is having a faith, trust, and confidence in the Lord that allows you to surrender your will to His and do whatever He asks of you knowing that He will equip you with everything you need in order to do His Will. When we have an attitude of meekness in serving Him, we have a willingness to take a risk, to go out of our comfort zone, to be stretched and grown in order to do His will. We are able to do what is asked of us without complaint, exhaustion or burn out because we are resting in Him and allowing Him to do the task through us. The task itself is not important for this devotion, what is important is saying yes to being taken out of your comfort zone and trusting Him to provide everything you need in order to do what it is He is asking.
Prayerfully consider this question- What have you been prompted by the Holy Spirit to attempt for God? Ask Him to help you take that leap of faith and do it—Lord, help my unbelief. Cause me to surrender my will to yours and go out of my comfort zone trusting that you will equip me with everything I need in order to do what it is that you are asking of me.
